Add or remove a language on a campaign

How campaign content is stored per language, how to add a second language, and what changing the default language actually changes.

A campaign holds separate content for every language you give it. One campaign can carry German and English versions of the same message, so guests receive it in a language they read rather than in whichever one you wrote first.

How the content is arranged

On the 2. Content step, the left panel is a small tree. A channel sits at the top, and the languages you have added to it sit underneath. One of them is marked (Default).

Each language is its own piece of content. Editing the German version changes nothing about the English one and vice versa.

Adding a language

  1. Open the campaign and go to the 2. Content step.

    Click on 2. Content

  2. Open the three-dot menu on the channel, not on a language.

    Click on highlight

  3. Choose Add language and pick the language.

    Click on Add language

  4. Select the new language in the panel and write its content.

    Click on Select a Language…

A newly added language starts empty. Rather than writing it from scratch, use Copy template from this campaign on the new language to bring the existing version across and then translate it in place, which keeps the layout and images intact.

See Reuse a message template inside an existing campaign.

Changing which language is the default

Open the three-dot menu on the language you want to promote and choose Make default language.

You will only see that option on a language that is not already the default. The language currently marked (Default) has neither Make default language nor Remove language in its menu, which is the product stopping you from leaving the campaign with no default at all.

Removing a language

Open the three-dot menu on the language and choose Remove language. As above, this is not available on the default language, so promote a different language first if the one you want rid of is currently the default.

Removing a language removes the content written for it.

Before you publish

Make sure every language you have added actually has content in it. An empty language does not fall back to the default. A guest who resolves to it fails with Campaign template not found on the Schedules tab, and the Review & Publish step warns about empty templates before then.

If you use several languages, the Prioritize Language setting under Advanced on the Review and Publish step affects how language is weighed against channel when Bookboost decides how to reach a guest.

Getting help

Open Talk to Us in the left menu of the platform, or email [email protected]. Tell us the campaign name and the language you are trying to add or remove.
